What does SpotAhead do?

SpotAhead is an iPhone app for finding fuel, food, and EV charging stops ahead on the road you are driving. It uses your current road and direction to look for stops in the installed map data. It is not turn-by-turn navigation or a route planner.

Does stop discovery work offline?

Road matching and stop search can use installed packs without a mobile connection. Live Drive requires precise location. Internet access is needed for catalogue checks, pack downloads and updates, optional country lookup, Apple maps, and the final route from your navigation app.

When does SpotAhead use location in the background?

Live Activities are on by default. While enabled in SpotAhead Settings, a Live Activity starts automatically when the driving screen is open and SpotAhead confirms a motorway or expressway, after setup and location checks. You can also tap Start drive while parked to prepare a session. Location updates continue during that session while the phone is locked or another app is open. End drive stops the current session and its background location updates. Turning off Live Activities stops the session and prevents further starts until you enable it again, including after app relaunch. You can also revoke location access in iOS Settings.

Why is a nearby stop missing?

A stop may be excluded by the mapped road-access rules, for example because it is across a divided road, off the current road, or in an unsupported local-road area. Map data can also be incomplete or out of date.

Which roads and countries are covered?

Coverage focuses on motorways, expressways, and selected intercity roads. Check the pack catalogue in SpotAhead for available countries and regions. Not every road or stop is included.

Does SpotAhead replace my navigation app?

No. SpotAhead helps you choose a road-relevant stop. When you tap Navigate, it hands the destination to your selected navigation app, which calculates and provides the final route.

Does SpotAhead store where I drive?

SpotAhead does not persist a drive history. Live road matching and stop discovery are performed on your iPhone. Apple can receive a current coordinate for country resolution, and MapKit or a selected navigation app can process location under its own policy.

Is SpotAhead free?

This release is free. Live Drive, maps, stop details, filters, road packs, Demo Drive, and navigation handoff are included. There are no subscriptions or in-app purchases in this version. Using this release does not enroll you in a future paid plan.

Before you drive

Before starting Live Drive:

  • Install and update the road pack for the country or region where you will drive.
  • Allow Precise Location for Live Drive. Location updates can continue in the background during an active Live Activity.
  • Choose categories, brands, and a navigation app before moving.
  • Keep your attention on the road and interact only when lawful and safe.
  • Follow current road signs and conditions because map information can be incomplete.
